Together we have walked
5146184 steps
The PIE Challenge is run by the PIE Project Charity (Primary Inspiration through Enterprise). Started in 2013, the first participants were 4 schools in Walker, Newcastle Upon Tyne that came together to set up and run a shop. Since then the programme has worked with over 50 schools and 3,000 pupils.
Mission
Delivering enterprise and STEM challenges in partnership with schools and business.
We will provide a clear and consistent framework that enables young people to learn in a fun and engaging approach, recognises strengths and allows business to use its expertise to bring education to life.
Vision
We aim to help young people aged 6-16 years old to realise their ambitions and raise aspirations through providing real life enterprise experiences delivered holistically in association with parents, pupils, teachers and businesses to ultimately ensure future work forces are aware of emerging opportunities and adequately prepared for the world of work. The PIE Challenge is run by the PIE Project Charity (Primary Inspiration through Enterprise). We are excited to join the OMS challenge as something fun to get involved with and raise money whereby every penny will go to supporting the PIE Project challenge within primary schools.
We make the connection between education and the world of work, enabling young people to develop the knowledge, attitudes and enterprise skills they need to succeed.
They will gain exposure to what it is like to work for a profit-making venture with roles that have accountability. Working together as a team towards a common goal they will develop business acumen plus skills in decision making, communication, persistence to solve problems and having a positive mindset to overcome challenges.
How does it benefit schools?
- OFSTED takes a positive view of enrichment activities that broaden pupils’ experiences.
- Support the meeting of Gatsby Benchmarks to give every young person, in every learning environment, high quality career guidance to make informed decision making about the future. This also gives opportunities to offer meaningful encounters with employers over a school career.
- Brand building for the school to share positive news with parents and the wider community as to the opportunities offered to children.
- Profit is kept by schools reaching Stage 2 of the challenge. Finalists compete for prize money with a top prize of £2,000.
- Supports the curriculum that prepares children for a future world of work.
We look forward to running our next challenge cycle once schools are up and running again.
