We are The Autistic Girls Network and our mission is two-fold:
> To campaign for better recognition and diagnosis of autistic girls and
> to support them to find their identity and feel understood.
Achieving our fundraising goal would allow us to cover start-up and initial running costs and kick off our first project to establish autistic girls' network groups, providing local opportunities to meet and spend time with other girls.
We already support our group members and the 21,000 followers of our social media accounts but we know there are many more who need our help and in order to make a difference face to face and campaign for real change, we need to start fundraising.
We are excited to get started and would love to achieve our goal by the summer, with your help we can make a big difference.
I am participating in The Challenge for the Autistic Girl’s Network. I am a Trustee for this charity and have been involved in setting up the charity up this year. Our aim is to improve awareness, mental health and education for autistic girls.
This charity is very important to me because I found out I was autistic at the age of 16, after years of mental health problems which left me sectioned on a children’s mental health ward. I wish people had understood autism better so growing up would have been easier for me. I hope that in the future all autistic girl’s (and autistic people in general!) are recognised, understood and supported from a young age.
