We would like to take part in this wonderful challenge and raise funds for a noble cause.
The team at Colinwell have been wanting to do something for charity for a while and after some research we decided the One Million Steps challenge was the perfect way to do so. The idea behind this is to come together as a team and raise some money for PIPS, a local suicide prevention charity. They provide support to individuals who are considering, or who have at some point considered, ending their own lives as well as support to those families & friends who have been touched by suicide.
Northern Ireland has the highest suicide rate in the United Kingdom, with 18.5 age-standardised suicides per 100,000 people, and in 2016 the number of deaths by suicide in west Belfast had more than doubled in just 12 months. As a business based in West Belfast, we want to support the people in the local community and feel that raising money for PIPS is one way for us to give back to them.
